Global – Textron Aviation Inc. has announced a suite of avionics and engine system upgrades for its Cessna piston training and general aviation aircraft lineup — covering the Skyhawk, Skylane, Turbo Skylane, and Turbo Stationair HD — with enhanced aircraft expected to enter service from late 2026 through early 2027.
- The upgrade package introduces the Garmin G1000 NXi System Release 7, bringing new capabilities including Garmin Smart Glide — an automated engine-out assistance system designed to support pilots in managing emergency situations — and Remote Wake, which enables operators to power up aircraft avionics from outside the cockpit for pre-flight planning, database updates, and maintenance checks.
- The Lycoming dual electronic ignition system (dual EIS), previously announced for the Cessna Skyhawk, is now standard across all new Cessna piston aircraft; replacing the traditional dual magneto system, the solid-state technology reduces internal moving parts, improves maintenance intervals, lowers operating costs, and improves overall engine operation.
- The combined upgrades are positioned to modernise the Cessna piston fleet for flight training operators and general aviation users, improving situational awareness, simplifying aircraft operations, and reducing lifecycle costs.
Statements
- "We continue to invest in innovations that support the long-term success of our Cessna piston products. Garmin System Release 7 and the dual electronic ignition system improvements provide pilots with advanced tools that simplify operations, improve situational awareness and deliver a more modern and intuitive flying experience," said Lannie O'Bannion, Senior Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Textron Aviation.
