Oregon, USA – The U.S. federal government's proposed 2027 budget includes an $80 million allocation for the construction of a new F-35 Formal Training Unit (FTU) Academic Training Center at Kingsley Field in Klamath Falls, Oregon, supporting the facility's transition from the F-15C to the F-35A Lightning II.

The funding was secured by Congressman Cliff Bentz (R-OR) in coordination with Kingsley Field leadership, U.S. Air Force command, and the White House, and is included as a dedicated line item in the President's 2027 budget submission.
The new Academic Training Center will serve the U.S. Air Force and Air National Guard, underpinning Kingsley Field's programmatic shift from the F-15C to the F-35A Lightning II — one of the most advanced fighter aircraft currently in service.
The investment designates Kingsley Field as a continuing centre of excellence for U.S. fighter pilot training, with the facility positioned as a cornerstone of the nation's air defence training infrastructure.
