Egypt – EgyptAir, Egypt's national flag carrier and Star Alliance member, has taken delivery of its first Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, a 737-8 leased from Dublin-based SMBC Aviation Capital. The delivery marks the introduction of the 737 MAX type into the Egyptian aviation market and represents the first of 18 aircraft to be delivered under the lease agreement.

  • The 737-8 complements EgyptAir's existing fleet of 30 Next-Generation 737 jets, offering operational commonality alongside a 20% reduction in fuel use and emissions compared to the aircraft it replaces.
  • EgyptAir will deploy the 737 MAX on short- and medium-haul routes to destinations including Paris, Brussels, Istanbul, and Vienna.
  • The delivery builds on a 737 operator relationship dating back to 1975, making EgyptAir one of Africa's largest and longest-serving operators of the 737 family. The carrier also operates five 777 and eight 787 Dreamliner jets.

AFM previously reported that Egyptair Training Academy is also adding a new Boeing 737 MAX full flight simulator manufactured by FlightSafety International to its Cairo-based training center.
